Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to read and use this website, including people with poor eyesight, shaky hands or memory difficulties.
What we have done
- Large text (at least 19 pixels) with generous line spacing, in the Lexend typeface, which was designed to be easy to read.
- Very high contrast between text and background.
- Large buttons and links, at least 48 pixels high, so they are easy to press.
- Plain English, short sentences, and clear headings.
- Every button and link says in words what it does.
- No moving or flashing content, and no pop-ups.
- Everything works with a keyboard, and the place you are on the page is clearly highlighted.
- The site works without JavaScript, including the “Which option suits me?” questions.
- Photos have text descriptions for screen readers.
- Guides can be printed.
Making the text bigger
Press the Larger text button at the top of any page. The text gets bigger on every page. Press it again to go back to normal size.
You can also zoom in using your web browser:
- Windows or Chromebook: hold down Ctrl and press + (plus). Press Ctrl and - (minus) to zoom out, or Ctrl and 0 (zero) to go back to normal.
- Mac: hold down Cmd and press + (plus). Use Cmd and - to zoom out.
- Phone or tablet: spread two fingers apart on the screen to zoom in. You can also make text bigger for all apps in your device’s settings, under “Display” or “Accessibility”.
The site is designed to work when zoomed in to 400%.
Known problems
Some pages we link to on other websites may not be as accessible. Photo credits and licence names are shown in slightly smaller text.
